A 68-year-old Los Angeles man, identified by the coroner’s office as Steve L., was killed after a tire dislodged from another vehicle and struck his car on the westbound Moreno Valley (60) Freeway near Jack Rabbit Trail in Beaumont on Monday morning, November 17, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. when a 2011 BMW 328i driven by 54-year-old Riverside resident Philip M. was traveling eastbound and lost his left rear tire.
CHP Officer Ricardo Palomera said the tire became detached, went airborne, and traveled over the center divider onto the westbound lanes of Route 60. The tire hit the front windshield and roof of a 2017 Toyota Sienna driven by Steve in the No. 1 westbound lane.
Authorities said the Toyota struck the center divider, veered off the freeway, and crashed into an embankment. The BMW came to a stop on the freeway, and no other vehicles were involved. Riverside County Fire Department paramedics pronounced Steve dead at the scene. His passenger, a 54-year-old Santa Ana woman, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley. Philip was not injured.
No further details were immediately available.
