Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash on southbound Highway 99 in Madera County on Thursday evening, December 11, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. just south of Avenue 11. Officers said a Honda Civic made a sudden movement near a big rig before losing control and veering into the truck’s path. CHP Sergeant Sal Contreras said the big rig driver applied the brakes but was unable to avoid the collision and struck the side of the Honda.
The male driver and female passenger in the Civic, both believed to be around 30 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene. CHP stated that neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be factors.
Traffic on Highway 99 in the area was congested for several hours during the response.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
