[01-09-2026] Santa Cruz County, CA – Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle on Mission St.

A 30-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle in Santa Cruz on Friday night, January 9, 2026.

According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, the crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. in the 1700 block of Mission Street.

The pedestrian sustained severe, life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby trauma center, where he later died. Police said the 39-year-old driver initially left the scene but returned shortly thereafter and cooperated with the officers.

Authorities stated that the driver was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and drug possession. The victim’s identity has not been released pending further notification.
