A 68-year-old woman died after being hit by a vehicle in Santa Maria on Saturday evening, January 4, 2025.
According to Sgt. Shane Armstrong of the Santa Maria Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of West Main Street and Russell Avenue.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the injured woman in the eastbound lanes of Main Street. Emergency responders from American Medical Response transported her to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. However, she later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities. Preliminary findings suggest that neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the incident, Armstrong said.
The woman’s identity has not been released, pending notification of her family.
The Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is actively investigating the accident.
