A head-on collision on State Route 4 near Tracy resulted in one fatality and left another driver with severe injuries on early Wednesday morning, January 8, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 12:33 a.m., just west of Tracy Boulevard.
A pickup truck traveling westbound crossed over the double yellow lines and collided head-on with an SUV traveling eastbound.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck sustained major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the pickup truck driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
The roadway was closed following the crash but was fully reopened by 2:46 a.m.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the collision.
