A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash after another driver allegedly ran a red light and collided with his vehicle in Gardena on Sunday morning, February 2, 2025.
According to the Gardena Police Department, officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and 135th Street at approximately 7:38 a.m.
Upon arrival, they found the victim unresponsive inside his vehicle and called in the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police determined that the second driver, identified as 29-year-old Marian J., had fled the scene before officers arrived. Investigators later located her at her residence in Los Angeles, where she was arrested.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Marian J. was traveling southbound on Van Ness Avenue when she ran a red light at 135th Street, colliding with the victim’s vehicle, which was traveling eastbound. She was booked at the Gardena Police Department for manslaughter.
The investigation is ongoing.
