A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving a big rig and a white SUV in Castro Valley on Wednesday night, February 25, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on eastbound Interstate 580, just west of Center Street at 9:21 p.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the pedestrian ran onto the roadway for unknown reasons before being struck. The victim’s identity has not been confirmed as of Thursday morning.
The big rig driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, while the driver of the white SUV fled.
CHP is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the white SUV. Anyone with information is urged to contact the CHP Hayward Area office at (510) 489-1500.
