[04-09-2025] Driver Killed, Passenger Injured in Rollover Crash on El Monte Road in LakesideA driver from El Cajon was killed and his passenger was injured in a rollover crash on El Monte Road in Lakeside, San Diego County, on Wednesday afternoon, April 9, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, at around 2:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to El Monte Road approximately 1.5 miles east of Lake Jennings Park Road.

A 57-year-old man was driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma westbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The Toyota reportedly veered into the northbound embankment, crossed into the eastbound lane, and struck the opposite embankment before overturning onto the roadway.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 41-year-old male passenger from El Cajon sustained minor injuries and was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
