A driver was killed while a passenger was injured after a single-vehicle collision in south Los Angeles just past midnight on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the fatal crash happened at about 12:20 a.m. around the Manchester Avenue and Central Avenue intersection.
LAPD said that a vehicle with a male driver and a female passenger was traveling westbound on Manchester Avenue when the driver suddenly lost control as they passed through Central Avenue. This caused the vehicle to crash into a light pole and a nearby church.
The driver, who was said to be in his early 40s, was reportedly ejected from the crashed vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger survived and was rushed to a nearby hospital to recover. Her current condition was not disclosed.
Witnesses told police that the driver ran the red light before the incident occurred. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
