A late-night crash involving a car that struck a utility pole caused a power outage in a Fallbrook neighborhood in San Diego County on Monday night, May 19, 2025.
According to local residents, the crash occurred around midnight near Gumtree Lane and Live Oak Park Road.
One of the vehicle’s occupants, who appeared to be injured, was reportedly chased down and detained by neighbors before turning himself in. Residents at the scene said the occupants appeared to be inebriated at the time of the crash.
The collision damaged two transformers, including the main feed supplying the area and the pole serving the immediate residence of one of the neighbors. Power crews responded overnight to begin restoring electricity to the affected homes.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
