Two people were killed and several others injured when a private jet crashed into military housing in San Diego early Thursday morning, May 22, 2025.
According to authorities, the aircraft went down just before 4:00 a.m. in the U.S. military’s largest housing neighborhood near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. The crash destroyed multiple vehicles and damaged at least 10 homes, including one that caught fire.
The San Diego Police Department confirmed that two people aboard the jet died. Five members of a nearby family were hospitalized for smoke inhalation, and three others were treated for minor injuries. Another person was injured while escaping through a window.
Officials said the private jet originated from New Jersey with a stop in Kansas. It was scheduled to land in San Diego at 3:47 a.m. before crashing in foggy weather. The impact sparked several fires and scattered wreckage throughout the neighborhood.
At least 100 residents were evacuated, and a temporary shelter was set up at a nearby elementary school. The FAA and the NTSB are leading the investigation.
