Five people were injured after a speeding vehicle crashed into a triage tent outside the emergency room at Sharp Medical Center in Chula Vista on Thursday afternoon, July 10, 2025.
According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a maroon vehicle entered the ER parking lot at a high rate of speed and struck a gurney next to an ambulance, injuring a paramedic. The car then continued forward, crashing through a chain-link fence and into the triage tent used for patient assessments.
Authorities said the paramedic and the driver were both transported to nearby hospitals. Three other individuals inside the tent sustained minor injuries, though it was unclear whether they were patients or staff.
The area remained cordoned off as police investigated the scene. Officials stated that the crash did not appear to be intentional. Medical equipment and furniture within the tent were significantly damaged.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
