[08-02-2024] Male Driver Killed, Female Passenger Injured After Two-Vehicle Hit-And-Run Crash in Long BeachA male driver was killed while his female passenger was injured after a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash in Long Beach on Friday evening, August 2, 2024.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the fatal accident happened at about 7:00 p.m. on 14th Street and Cherry Avenue.

LBPD said that a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling westbound on 14th Street at a high rate of speed when it struck a four-door Saturn going southbound on Cherry Avenue. The Chevy driver that caused the collision reportedly fled the scene on foot.

When the accident occurred, the Saturn had two occupants: a 33-year-old male driver and an unidentified female passenger. Both of them were rushed to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries. The man later passed away, while the woman remains in critical condition.

Authorities set up a perimeter and activated the SWAT team to locate the hit-and-run driver. After about 2 hours and 40 minutes, they caught up to the suspect and arrested him. The suspect was later identified as 34-year-old Guillermo P. from Long Beach.

Guillermo P. was also taken to the hospital for treatment. After that, he was sent to the Long Beach Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $50,000.

An investigation is underway. Potential witnesses to the deadly collision are asked to contact the LBPD at 562-570-7355.
