A male riding in a Can-Am off-road vehicle was killed and several others injured after a collision with a Toyota Corolla in Phelan, San Bernardino County, on Friday evening, August 29, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:38 p.m. on Caughlin Road just north of Dos Palmas Road.
The Toyota Corolla was carrying two female passengers and one male driver. The male in the Can-Am sustained life-threatening injuries and later died at a hospital. An adult male in the Can-Am and a female passenger from the Corolla were also transported with injuries, though less severe.
The male driver of the Toyota Corolla was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Authorities have not confirmed how many total occupants were in the Can-Am or whether the male who died was the driver or a passenger.
The Can-Am was destroyed in the roadway, and the Toyota Corolla sustained major front-end damage.
CHP Victorville continues to investigate the cause of the collision.
