An unidentified male pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Mapleview Street in Lakeside, San Diego County, on Friday morning, August 30, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 11:45 am at the intersection of Mapleview Street and Vine Street. Emergency responders arrived shortly after the incident was reported.
Preliminary reports indicate that the man was walking southbound across Mapleview Street when a vehicle traveling northbound on Vine Street made a turn onto Mapleview Street and collided with him. The driver, unaware of the collision, continued to drive.
The driver later discovered the man unresponsive beneath his vehicle after parking at his apartment complex. A 911 call was placed, and rescue personnel transported the victim to Sharp Memorial Hospital’s emergency department.
Imaging of the man at the hospital revealed multiple severe injuries. The man’s condition rapidly worsened, and he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending the notification of the next of kin.
