[09-05-2024] Los Angeles County, CA – Construction Worker Seriously Injured After Being Trapped in Deep Trench at Los Feliz Hillside Home

A man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries after becoming trapped in an eight-foot-deep trench while working on a hillside home in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, on Thursday morning, September 5, 2024.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews responded to the 2300 block of North Catalina Street at around 10:50 a.m.

The man, who was alert but trapped up to his shoulders, was wedged next to a load-bearing wall on the construction site. Firefighters worked relentlessly for nearly six hours, utilizing shovels and ladders to stabilize the walls of the trench and safely rescue the man from the soil that had trapped him above the waist.

In addition to the construction worker, two firefighters were treated for heat-related exhaustion. One of them was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
