A 65-year-old man from Atwater was killed after crashing his Toyota Camry into a tree in Chowchilla on Sunday evening, September 21, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:35 p.m. near the Wye intersection of Highway 99 and Highway 152.
The man allowed his vehicle to veer off the roadway into the dirt median, striking a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 52-year-old woman, also from Atwater and riding in the front passenger seat, sustained minor injuries. CHP confirmed that both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision, and it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs were involved pending toxicology results.
