A 37-year-old man was taken into custody after a suspected DUI hit-and-run that injured another motorist in Santee on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 9:27 p.m. to the 9000 block of Mission Gorge Road for reports of a multi-vehicle collision.
Moments before the crash, the suspect was traveling at a high rate of speed near Mission Gorge Road and Fanita Drive. After colliding with another vehicle and leaving the occupant inside, the suspect fled toward the San Diego River, officials said.
Authorities identified the suspect as Robert P. He was found after a containment perimeter was established with assistance from a patrol helicopter, a K9 unit, and tips from the public. The sheriff’s office said Robert appeared to be intoxicated and was taken into custody without incident.
Robert was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant and hit-and-run offenses. The investigation is ongoing.
