Three big rigs were involved in a crash amid extremely foggy conditions in the Sacramento Valley on Thursday morning, February 5, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred along northbound Interstate 5 near Twin Cities Road just south of Elk Grove.
Officers said one big rig began slowing when a second big rig was unable to slow in time and attempted to turn left.
CHP stated that the second big rig struck the left rear of the first truck, causing its cab to flip over and crash into the center divide. A third big rig was later struck by debris from the collision, authorities said.
Officials reported that approximately 75 gallons of fuel spilled from the second big rig into the center divide area. Investigators said it remains unclear what caused the first truck to slow down, though extremely dense fog was present in the area at the time of the crash.
CHP noted that visibility dropped below a quarter mile in many parts of the valley, with some areas reporting zero visibility. Northbound Interstate 5 traffic was impacted through the morning commute, and a Dense Fog Advisory remained in effect through noon.
The crash remains under investigation.
What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
