[04-09-2026] Santa Clara County, CA – Woman Killed in Crash, Man Arrested for DUI in Sunnyvale

A woman died, and a man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a crash in Sunnyvale, late Thursday night, April 9, 2026.

According to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, the collision, involving a sedan and a truck, was reported around 10:55 p.m. at Central Expressway and Commercial Street. 

Emergency crews found the female driver, in her 50s, unresponsive and trapped inside her vehicle. She was extricated but pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his 30s, was transported to Valley Medical Center for evaluation. He declined to provide a statement to investigators and refused a blood sample for chemical analysis. 

Investigators later obtained a search warrant and collected the blood sample. The man was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence (DUI).

The collision remains under investigation.
