A woman was attacked by a dog while walking near the Los Angeles River in Long Beach on Sunday afternoon, April 12, 2026.
According to Long Beach Police Department officers, the attack occurred around 1:40 p.m. near Anaheim Street.
The woman was walking when she was attacked by a dog she described as a pit bull, also known as a Staffordshire Terrier. Witnesses heard the woman yelling for help and called 911. When officers arrived, the dog ran from the scene.
Police later shared that officers used a baton strike and deployed a conducted electrical weapon (taser) to separate the dog from the woman. Investigators believe two dogs may have been involved in the attack.
The woman was rushed to a local trauma center with severe, but non-life-threatening injuries to her arms and legs. The dog was captured later that afternoon with the assistance of a drone and was located by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Services.
The next steps for the dog remain unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
