[08-19-2026] Shasta County, CA – Head-On Crash Blocks Highway 299 East of Buckhorn Summit

A head-on collision involving multiple vehicles blocked State Route 299 near Buckhorn Summit in Shasta County on Wednesday afternoon, August 19, 2026.

According to Caltrans District 2 and preliminary California Highway Patrol records, the crash was reported around 2:34 p.m. just east of Buckhorn Summit.

Initial CHP logs indicated that a red Chevrolet and a gray Ford pickup truck were involved, as well as an RV or camper van. The Chevrolet’s engine reportedly caught fire after the collision, with black smoke visible at the scene.

CHP records also indicated that a person was trapped inside one of the vehicles. People at the scene reportedly attempted to gain access to the vehicle before emergency crews arrived.

Both lanes of Highway 299 were blocked while emergency personnel, including Cal Fire, responded to the collision.

Information about possible injuries was not immediately available. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
