[05-30-2024] Two People Injured After Pursuit Led To Reckless Multi-Vehicle Collision in South LATwo people were injured after a pursuit led to a reckless multi-vehicle collision in South Los Angeles on Thursday night, May 30, 2024. 

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. at South Hoover Street and West Jefferson Boulevard, just outside the University of California campus.

Authorities stated that a driver in a suspected stolen white Mercedes refused to pull over after being stopped by the responding officers. The vehicle sped away, initiating a pursuit with the LAPD officials. 

During the pursuit, an LAPD vehicle collided with a street bench close to the University of California campus. The suspect then struck another car two miles distant, injuring an innocent driver. 

Police said that an LAPD officer and the driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash. Their current conditions remain unclear. Details on the identity of the injured driver were not immediately available. 

The suspect, whose name was not disclosed, was taken into custody on suspicion of felony evading and grand theft auto. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

No further information was released. The investigation continues.
