[06-27-2024] At Least Two People Hospitalized Following Hazmat Incident in El SegundoAt least three people were hospitalized following a hazmat incident in El Segundo on Thursday morning, June 27, 2024. 

According to the El Segundo Fire Department, the incident happened around 10:00 a.m. at a Northrop Grumman facility in the 600 block of Hornet Way, south of 118th Street and west of Aviation Way. 

Authorities stated that 100 employees were immediately evacuated because of the unknown fumes released from the lab. Firefighters, together with the county’s hazmat team, were dispatched to the scene to contain a possible leak and rescue the victims. It is believed that the leak might have started as a result of work being done on the lab’s HVAC air conditioning system.

At least two people were transported to a hospital for further medical assessment, while three others were treated at the scene for exposure to the fumes. Their names, ages, and genders were not immediately known. As of this writing, the condition of the victims has not yet been disclosed.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
