[12-15-2024] San Bernardino County, CA – Man Suffers Severe Injuries After Drunk Driver Strikes Disabled Vehicle in Apple Valley

A Lucerne Valley man suffered life-altering injuries, including a severed leg and a broken spine, after being hit by a drunk driver while attempting to jump-start his disabled vehicle in Apple Valley, San Bernardino County, on Sunday evening, December 15, 2024.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Bear Valley and Deep Creek Roads.

According to reports, 43-year-old Dean W. was in the trunk of his 2006 Chrysler 300 when a 2024 Hyundai Elantra struck his vehicle from behind. The impact pinned the man between the vehicles, resulting in the amputation of his leg at the scene. He was transported to a trauma center and remains in intensive care.

The victim’s wife was inside the Chrysler at the time of the crash but declined medical treatment to focus on her husband’s care.

The driver of the Hyundai, 29-year-old Rebecca B. of Apple Valley, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol with a special allegation of causing great bodily injury. During her arraignment, she pleaded not guilty, and her bail was set at $350,000.
