A man was struck and killed by a vehicle while lying in the roadway near Cal State Long Beach early Thursday morning, May 15, 2025.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the collision occurred at approximately 2:38 a.m. in the area of East Seventh Street and Channel Drive.
A 28-year-old driver from Garden Grove was traveling eastbound on Seventh Street when he struck the man.
Emergency responders from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived at the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead. The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities stated that speed, distracted driving, and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
